ON STOCK 64 T / SANDAL WOOD / FIRST GRADE / PROVENANCE NEW CALEDONIA/ BEST WORLD QUALITY /MAKE AN OFFER BEFORE 15 TH NOVEMBER Essential oil quality Essential oil of ¬Santalum¬ ¬austrocaledonicum¬ was previously asses¬sed for its compositi¬on and organoleptic p¬roperties, and was co¬nsidered as a possibl¬e substitute for Indi¬an sandalwood oil (Santalum¬ ¬album¬) but also as a promi¬sing new raw material¬ for the fragrance in¬dustry (Braun et al. -2005). These evaluati¬ons were performed on¬ essential oils resul¬ting from mixtures of¬ sandalwood varieties¬ glabrum¬ (Loyalty islands), ¬pilosulum¬ (surroundings of Nou¬méa) and austrocaledonicum¬(Isle of Pines), leav¬ing unknown the quali¬ty of each individual¬ variety. To investigate the qu¬ality of Loyalty Isla¬nds sandalwood essent¬ial oil (var.¬ ¬glabrum¬), two samples were a¬nalyzed for their mai¬n sesquiterpenoids bu¬t also for their orga¬noleptic properties: Loyalty Oil 1 (EI1) o¬btained in 2015 from ¬Distillerie de Boulou¬paris (New Caledonia)¬ with Ouvéa sandalwoo¬d, Loyalty Oil 2 (EI2) o¬btained in 2002 from ¬Michel Point and proc¬essed by Koop Cuada d¬istillery with Maré a¬nd Lifou sandalwoods. The gas-chromatograph¬y was performed on an¬ apolar column (HP-1,¬ 10 m x 0.1 mm, film ¬0.1m, 50° (1’) to 280¬° (2’) at 50°/min., v¬ector gas: hydrogen).¬ Its results are give¬n in Table 1 (C. Vial¬ and S.A. Firmenich, ¬pers. comm. 2015). The organoleptic eval¬uation showed that th¬e Loyalty essential o¬il is lighter and les¬s milky than the Indi-an sandalwood; the fo¬rmer has also a chara¬cter less woody but m¬ore animal and mascul¬ine (P.-A.
