In assessing the marketplace, Jay and his team found many, if not all, vitamin stores adopting the &acirc;€œWal-Mart mentality&acirc;€&acirc;€&brvbar;meaning - buy in bulk and sell at low margins (10% - 14%) to attract customers. Gone is the customer service and product education to the consumer (not to mention the store&acirc;€™s cash flow)&acirc;€&brvbar;leaving in its place a &acirc;€œwho has the lowest price&acirc;€ war between retail stores, online stores and mail order companies. Thus, the &acirc;€œWal-Mart&acirc;€ business model results in diminished customer retention and non-existent retail loyalty - literally with the click of the computer mouse. Jay Cohen&acirc;€™s vision that all should be &acirc;€œCommitted to a Winning Strategy&acirc;€&acirc;€&brvbar;means a branded in the way a manufacturer conducts business in the vitamin and nutritional supplement marketplace. This business model is one that is focused on bringing back customer loyalty, brand loyalty and profit margins to all involved. While initially, Metabolic Nutrition had to turn down more business than it earned (to those who could not shake the Wal-Mart mentality)&acirc;€&brvbar;in less than 6 months the strategy began to show its strength with &acirc;€œauthorized&acirc;€ retailers reporting profits tripling and astronomical financial growth &acirc;€“ as other competing stores (not authorized to sell Metabolic Nutrition products) either downsized or closed their doors.
